How This Site Came To Be

Back To Home Page

Welcome!

This site was built over several years by Mike Singleton.

Mike used, and still uses the site as a point of reference for hobbyists. He can more easily send hobbyists here to read his article on quarantine, for example, than cutting and pasting it to them, over and over. (Mike's Basics Page)

This site is also important to the "DIY mindset". The challenge is to make something that works as well as it's manufactured counterpart, only much less costly. Perhaps even better. (DIY pages)

As Mike would come across writings and teachings of various experts, he'd cut and paste them into this site. He's accumulated some great articles by Chris Neaves and James Reilly.

If your fish are in trouble, read this!

But a web site costs money. The domain requires payment of an annual fee. It costs money to get to one's web site for edition via your ISP, and then one pays a server company to keep it on the web. And a site that doesn't attempt to sell things, like Mike's informative site, eventually becomes a financial drain.

So, the site became a negative financial impact. The site benefited many people, but never paid for itself. The site was offered for sale on Afternic and was subsequently transferred to Dr. Erik Johnson's series of informative web sites. The site LivingJewels.com will continue to get updates from postings on the Koivet message board in it's section called Koivet Keepers.

Additionally, the site might even feature recent, additional articles by Mike [from Florida] as he gets time.

The site now has a commercial flavor, because that is what makes a web site "worth it", nay, POSSIBLE to keep on the internet year after year.

It should be mentioned that the advertisers and sponsors of this web site are not necessarily endorsed or recommended by Mike Singleton. He is an educator, hobbyist and writer for your benefit but he is non-commercial and only after the transfer of the site did the sponsors ads appear.

Other writers such as Chris Neaves and Jim Reilly (among others) appear hear via professional courtesy to Mike and on behalf of the hobbyists only.

If you have something to submit to the LivingJewels repository of "Keeper" articles or posts, simply go to the Koivet message board and let Mike know. He can forward it to the right folks.

Thank you,

Erik Johnson DVM
